Treat and No Transport
Not every emergency requires a trip to the hospital, but on-scene emergency care can still come with unexpected costs. Our Treat and No Transport member protection helps ease the financial impact of emergency care by reimbursing out-of-pocket expenses when first responders provide medically necessary treatment without transporting you to a medical facility. It’s one of the many valuable protections offered with certain MASA plans.
What is Treat and No Transport?
Our Treat and No Transport protection reimburses members up to $500 in out-of-pocket expenses when a licensed paramedic or first responder treats you during an emergency and determines that a ground or air ambulance ride isn’t necessary.
This decision is made by the responder based on their professional judgment that your condition has been safely treated and stabilized on scene. This is available for up to two eligible incidents per consecutive 12-month period, starting from your plan’s effective date.
Why do I need Treat and No Transport?
Emergency responders are often able to assess, treat, and stabilize a condition on scene, without the need for hospital transport. However, that care can still result in out-of-pocket expenses that aren’t always fully covered by traditional insurance.
Our Treat and No Transport protection helps protect you financially in these situations, ensuring you’re not left with unexpected bills after receiving critical emergency care at home, on the road, or in a public setting.
Treat and No Transport in action
Imagine you experience sudden dizziness at home, which causes a fall. Your spouse quickly calls 911, and paramedics arrive to help. They check your vital signs, evaluate for signs of stroke or head injury, and provide on-scene treatment to stabilize you after determining your blood sugar was low.
After monitoring your symptoms and determining that your condition has improved and does not require hospital transport, the paramedics clear you to remain at home. Even though no ambulance transport occurs, you later receive a bill for the emergency medical services provided on scene.
With MASA’s Treat and No Transport member protection, you get reimbursed for up to $500 in out-of-pocket expenses related to that emergency care, helping reduce the financial impact of receiving necessary treatment without transport.
